The ABEC precision rating system has been in existence since 1968. The purpose of the ABEC Committee (ABEC is an acronym for Annular Bearing Engineers Committee, meaning annular Bearing Engineers Committee) is not to test every manufacturer's bearing and decide whether it is good or bad, but to establish standards for bearing size, tolerance, geometry, and noise. To help producers and users of bearings for mechanical and electrical products production, comparison and selection for bearing applications in general.
However, because the actual application environment of each bearing is different, the bearing should be redesigned according to the actual use environment. The ABEC system is not a criterion for bearings used in special environments such as skateboards. This standard is only a tool for bearing designers to design bearings in the appropriate application environment.
The ABEC system includes 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. The higher the grade, the smaller the allowable tolerance, and the more precise the bearing. Bearings with high precision and small tolerances are mainly suitable for motors that operate at high speeds, such as the motor of the contour mill that cuts the skateboard, which runs at 20,000 to 30,000 revolutions per minute. For bearings in this category of applications, the accuracy level of ABEC7-9 is more appropriate. However, at a speed of 20,000 revolutions per minute, a 54 mm skateboard wheel will reach 127 miles per hour (about 203 kilometers per hour)! That's because all the skateboards go under 30 miles per hour (50 kilometers per hour), which equates to 4,700 revolutions per minute, when in fact most of the skateboarding goes under 2,000 revolutions per minute. For this reason, skateboard bearings do not require the use of high-precision motor bearings
